United-Continental merger now completed
Today is the long-awaited, or long-dreaded, day when the United-Continental merger is being completed with the integration of United’s MileagePlus and Continental’s OnePass frequent flier programs. In other ways, United Continental Holdings, the current corporate parent, has bringing the fusion of these two legacy carriers to its ultimate conclusion — a huge world carrier whose aircraft are a hybrid with United’s name on the fuselage and Continental’s logo on the tail. Shortly after noon today, Central Time, CO 6 landed in Houston — the carrier’s last flight ever.

I hold a softer spot in my heart for Continental than I ever did for United. Before moving to Colorado, I lived in the New York area, and Newark Airport was my preference when I traveled. Continental hubbed there, and when I moved to Colorado, Continental also hubbed at Stapleton International Airport. When the “new” Denver International Airport opened just over 17 years ago, Continental cut back its Denver service and no longer hubs here. I was on the last Continental flight out of Missoula, Montana. As we took off, the captain circled the airport and dipped a wing in a farewell salute.
Now, it’s good-bye, Continental.

It’s good news for Flight travelers. Thanks for updating.
Thnaks,
